A Lancashire soldier’s wedding

Bride and Groom with soldiers from the Duke of Lancaster

Every wedding is special: a celebration of love, an affirmation of life, a coming together of family and friends and new beginnings. But sometimes a wedding really brings all this home, and Lauren and Ben’s wedding was one of these.

Ben is a soldier in 1st Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment which has recently returned from serving in Afghanistan. Proud of his job, he chose to get married in ceremonial dress. At the wedding were mates from the army; some in uniform, others in civilian dress, and a photo with them was important to Ben.

Amongst them was Rick Clement, a former Infantry Platoon Sergeant who lost both legs in Afghanistan in 2010. Rick’s response to terrible injury was to set about re-building his life and regaining his independence. As part of this he set up a charity, A Soldier’s Journey to raise money and help those in similar situations.

Our photos of Lauren and Ben’s wedding will come later, but this really isn’t an “ooh look at our photos” kind of post. So please watch and share the video. It was a privilege to be part of Lauren and Ben’s day and humbling to spend time with people who have experienced great loss: people who appreciate just how special life, love, friends and family really are.
